Rod Reilly came to the United States from Australia with a career in live sound behind him. In theatre he found a gap most AV companies ignored: schools, churches and community theatre groups wanted to mic their casts, but professional wireless systems were priced for Broadway, not for the spring musical.
So in 2007 he started renting them. Bodymics shipped complete, pre-racked wireless systems (receivers, power, antennas, transmitters and microphones) so a cast could rehearse the day the gear arrived. Working with manufacturing partners, Rod also developed his own theatre microphones, the Broadway and Drury Lane series, in the colors, boom lengths and connectors real productions needed, at prices a drama program could afford.
The company called its standard Value meets Quality: when a product could be built better, build it; when someone already made the right thing, partner with them. You could see it in the details: a flat-rate repair service so one broken mic didn’t wreck a school budget, a guide to building hair rigs for lavaliers, and tapered XLR looms invented because Rod was tired of the cable nests behind his own rental racks.
