Shure SLX-D vs QLX-D vs ULX-D for School Theatre
Updated October 2026
Short answer: SLX-D+ is the right Shure system for most school and community theatres: four channels per rack space, simple setup and AA or rechargeable bodypacks. ULX-D is the step up for larger venues, crowded RF and Dante-networked sound. QLX-D makes sense mainly when you already own it, because its receiver is single-channel. All three bodypacks take the same TA4M input, so Bodymics for Shure fit every one.

How to choose
- Already own Shure wireless? Match it. Transmitters only pair with receivers of the same series and band. Check the model and band on the bodypack label (for example SLXD1 G57).
- Starting fresh with 8 to 16 mics? SLX-D+. Two quad receivers and antenna distribution fit in a small rack. See the Shure Show-Ready rack.
- Big room, lots of other wireless nearby, or a Dante console? ULX-D with ULXD4Q receivers.
- Need just one or two extra channels? Add a single or dual receiver in the series you own, and we coordinate the frequencies with your existing system.
Mics for every Shure bodypack
Shure bodypacks use a TA4M input, so theatre mics need a TA4F plug. Bodymics makes earsets, headsets and hairline lavaliers wired for Shure, in skin-tone colors and boom lengths for smaller performers.

Common questions
Which Shure wireless system is best for a school musical?
For most school and community theatres, SLX-D+: quad receivers fit four channels in one rack space and it is what we build most Shure Show-Ready racks on. Choose ULX-D for larger venues, crowded RF or a Dante network.
Do Bodymics fit SLX-D, QLX-D and ULX-D bodypacks?
Yes. All three bodypacks (SLXD1+, QLXD1 and ULXD1) take a TA4M input, so any Bodymics mic wired for Shure TA4F fits all three. Shure fit guide.
Can I mix SLX-D and ULX-D in one system?
Not on the same channel: a transmitter only pairs with a receiver from its own series (QLX-D and ULX-D are the exception and interoperate). You can run two series side by side as long as all frequencies are coordinated together.
What does G57 mean?
It is the frequency band, 470 to 608 MHz in the US. Receivers and transmitters must be in the same band. Most of our new Shure stock is G57.
