Wireless Mics and Projection for Disney's Aladdin JR.

Show guide · JR. · 12 principals plus a large Agrabah chorus · Reviewed by Stage Gear staff, October 2026

Short answer: plan on 14 channels. 12 body mics for the principals and both trios, plus 2 spares. Cover the chorus with 2–3 area mics at the stage edge, and voice the Cave of Wonders on a wired mic offstage.

Stage Gear supplies wireless mics, rentals and projection to school and community theatres across the U.S. Our staff work in theatre; this guide is how we'd mic Disney's Aladdin JR.

Who gets a mic

We counted roles that sing solos or carry dialogue over music: Aladdin, Jasmine, Genie, Jafar, Iago, the Sultan, Babkak, Omar and Kassim, plus Jasmine's attendants Isir, Manal and Rajah, who sing "These Palace Walls" with her. That is 12 packs plus 2 spares, for 14 channels.

Borderline: Razoul, Prince Abdullah and the featured marketplace roles have short spoken lines that an area mic or a spare can cover. MTI allows the Spooky Voice and Cave of Wonders to be pre-recorded or voiced offstage, so use a wired or handheld mic backstage with a little reverb instead of a body pack. Iago and the Sultan each sing only one lyric, but both talk over music, so cut them last.

Bigger budget (16 channels): add packs for Razoul and Prince Abdullah so the palace and marketplace scenes stay clear.

The ensemble

The Agrabahns, the "Friend Like Me" ensemble and the "Prince Ali" entourage sing and dance as groups, so cover them with two or three area or choir mics along the stage edge. Give an ensemble member a body channel only for a featured line that must cut through, such as the Fortune Teller during "One Jump Ahead."

Show notes from our team

  • "One Jump Ahead" chase. Aladdin runs, jumps and climbs while the guards chase him. Use a headset, belt the pack snugly, and run the cable under the vest so nothing catches on a jump.
  • "Friend Like Me". The Genie's showstopper adds magic tricks and a crowded stage. Keep ensemble area mics low under the Genie's lines, and check the mic after any onstage costume bit.
  • Cave of Wonders and Spooky Voice. These voices can be recorded, offstage or onstage. An offstage wired mic with reverb is the easiest live option; mark the cues so the operator opens it only for those lines.
  • The carpet ride. Carpet effects in "A Whole New World" often mean lifts or a rolling platform. Place packs where they will not dig in when Aladdin and Jasmine sit or kneel.

Projection

The Agrabah marketplace, the rooftops, the palace, the Cave of Wonders and the night sky for the carpet ride all suit projected scenery, and projection can sell the Genie's magic and the cave's treasure without heavy set pieces. Most school auditoriums need 7,000–10,000 lumens with the right lens; smaller black boxes need less.

Common questions

How many wireless mics does Aladdin JR. need?
Plan on 14 channels: 12 body mics for Aladdin, Jasmine, Genie, Jafar, Iago, the Sultan and both singing trios, plus 2 spares. Cover the chorus with area mics and voice the Cave of Wonders offstage.
How do we mic the Agrabah ensemble?
Use two or three area or choir mics along the front of the stage for the marketplace crowd, the "Friend Like Me" ensemble and the "Prince Ali" parade. Save body mics for named roles and featured lines.
Do Babkak, Omar and Kassim each need a mic?
Yes, if you can manage it. They sing as a trio and trade quick comic lines, and one shared area mic makes the jokes hard to hear. Give each a small hairline mic tucked under a cap or fez.
Can we rent mics just for our show week?
Yes. Stage Gear rentals run Monday to Monday around tech week, so you have mics for rehearsals and every performance. Systems arrive tested with return labels, and school purchase orders are welcome.
