Wireless Mics and Projection for Disney's Beauty and the Beast JR.
Show guide · JR. · 20 roles, 30–60 students · Reviewed by Stage Gear staff, October 2026
Short answer: plan on 13 channels. 11 body mics for Belle, Beast, Gaston, Lefou, Maurice, Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, Chip, Madame and Babette, plus 2 spares. Put the Narrators on wired or handheld mics.
Stage Gear supplies wireless mics, rentals and projection to school and community theatres across the U.S. Our staff work in theatre; this guide is how we'd mic Disney's Beauty and the Beast JR.
Licensing note: MTI currently limits Beauty and the Beast JR. to accredited K–9 schools performing with an all-student cast on school grounds. Check availability with MTI before you plan.
Who gets a mic
We counted the roles that sing solos or carry dialogue over music: Belle, Beast, Gaston, Lefou, Maurice, Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, Chip, Madame de la Grande Bouche and Babette. That is 11 body packs plus 2 spares, for 13 channels. The four Narrators don't sing, so two wired or handheld mics at a fixed downstage spot work well for them and keep the packs free for singers.
Borderline: the three Silly Girls sing featured lines but usually stand together, so area mics cover them. Monsieur D'Arque has a few lines and can double as a Servant, so he can use a spare. We have not paired any packs because the castle Servants and Villagers cross in and out of most scenes. MTI allows the Prince to be cast separately from the Beast. If you do, the Prince sings in the Finale and needs a spare or his own channel.
Bigger budget (16–18 channels): add the three Silly Girls, Monsieur D'Arque and a separate Prince. If your Narrators move around the stage, give them body packs as well.
Mic plot
| Ch | Role | Mic | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Channel 1 | Belle | Hairline (3 mm), brown | Lead in most scenes; small mic hidden in hair or wig. |
| Channel 2 | Beast | Hairline (3 mm), brown | Run through mane, clear of mask edges. |
| Channel 3 | Gaston | Hairline (3 mm), black | Wig hides it; physical tavern number needs firm taping. |
| Channel 4 | Lefou | Headset, black | Constant falls and tumbles; headset stays put. |
| Channel 5 | Maurice | Hairline (3 mm), beige | Dialogue-heavy inventor; wig hides the element. |
| Channel 6 | Lumiere | Hairline (3 mm), beige | Leads "Be Our Guest"; wig hides the element. |
| Channel 7 | Cogsworth | Earset, beige | Clock costume headpiece; earset sits clear of it. |
| Channel 8 | Mrs. Potts | Hairline (3 mm), beige | Sings the title song; route under teapot hat. |
| Channel 9 | Chip | Hairline (3 mm), beige | Often the youngest performer; smallest, lightest mic. |
| Channel 10 | Madame De La Grande Bouche | Hairline (3 mm), beige | Under wardrobe headpiece; test in full costume. |
| Channel 11 | Babette | Hairline (3 mm), black | Wig hides it; dances through "Be Our Guest." |
| Channel 12 | Spare | Hairline (3 mm), beige | Backup for Belle or Beast, or a separate Prince. |
| Channel 13 | Spare | Headset, black | For Monsieur D'Arque or a quick swap. |

The ensemble
Servants and Villagers sing as big groups in "Belle," "Be Our Guest," "Human Again" and "The Mob Song." Hang two or three area or choir mics along the stage edge for them. Give an ensemble member a body channel only for a featured solo line that the area mics can't reach.
Show notes from our team
- Be Our Guest. The biggest number: Servants in object costumes plus dancers. Fit and test every mic in full costume, not street clothes, and lean on area mics for the group vocals.
- Beast mask and Transformation. Plan the Beast's mic around the mask and the "Transformation." If a separate Prince takes over, give him a spare or his own channel ready for the Finale.
- Narrators. Four non-singing Narrators carry the story between scenes. Park them at a fixed downstage spot on wired or handheld mics, and set those levels for speech.
- Gaston and the tavern. "Gaston" brings mugs, table work and Lefou's tumbles. Use snug pack pouches and tape cables at the neck, and keep ensemble mics low so the leads stay on top.
Projection
The village, the forest, the Beast's castle, the West Wing and the rose all suit projected scenery, and the Transformation is a natural projection moment. Most school auditoriums need 7,000–10,000 lumens with the right lens; black boxes and cafetoriums can use less.
